Hi folks,
I thought I'd pass along the responses I got to my query about people who work on bathrooms, since some other folks have expressed interest. Here's the info I received from various people:
Hello - My neighbor just had her bathroom redone. The person who did it is from her church. I believe he about $2,000 to do the whole (small) bathroom (new tub, toilet, sink, floor to wall tile, plumbing, and also put in a new vent/exhaust fan). If you want to see her bathroom I can ask her to show it to you. Me and two other neighbors went to see her bathroom and plan on redoing our bathrooms with the same person.
The name of the person who did her bathroom is
Jose Trejo (703) 447-5919. Jose and his son do the work. I noticed that while they were working, they put down a floor cloth from the door entrance to the bathroom, as to not ruin the floor. I think they did an excellent job.
Other Suggestions:
We used
Chandler Plumbing. I got their name off this listserve a while ago, and used them to do work on our bathroom (just basic plumbing). My In-Laws used them to re-do three of their bathrooms, and eventually we plan on using them again for a complete renovation of our 2nd bathroom. I would say they're not the most expensive and not the cheapest. Anyway, we liked them.

The cabinets are from Kraftmaid from Home Depot - the finish is “canvas”. They’ve been pretty durable so far - even with our three cats pawing them at dinner time.
The countertop is Dupont Zodiaq in Marrone Emperador. It’s a really dark brown with black veining. It’s pretty but shows everything - I guess that’s good if you want to know whether it’s clean!
The wall color is Benjamin Moore Coastal Fog. It’s a fantastic color - a very warm light grey that changes with the light.
Ceramic trash bin is indeed our intermediate food scrap holder for the compost heap. We can compost in the summer, but haven’t figured out how to manage it in the winter yet!
Lighting fixture over the sink was also from design public, but it doesn’t look like they stock it any more. You can find it at Gus Design.
The open shelves haven’t been an issue at all. I think having a powerful hood over the stove really helps. We haven’t noticed any grease accumulating on the dishes. And someone asked about culling the dishes - we were lucky that most of ours were white or taupe. But we did have to corral the coffee mugs into a corner because they’re way more chaotic visually. They live over by the tea kettle (out of frame, I think).
